Relating details of her upcoming visit to London; discussing a call she made on "her Ladyship" on a recent afternoon to find she was "in the yard"...attired in a very short petticoat and a rough linsey frock turned up all round & an apron covered with traces of dirty work--with bib up to her chin, sleeves turned up & two little wiry brown arms bare to the weather. 'I've cut all this wood myself,' she said--'now I'm stacking it.' 'I'll help you,' said I...so I did as I was told & we worked in silence, I flinging logs and she stacking them till my arms threatened to drop off."
